Funding Opportunities

"Integrating HSD Goals into Core SBE Programs"
The NSF Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) encourages submission of research proposals to the regular SBE programs covering three areas: (1) complexity science, (2) large-scale interdisciplinary research, and (3) infrastructure. Collaborative Study of Suicidality and Mental Health in the U.S. Army
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the United States Army seek applications aimed at conducting an epidemiologic study of mental health, psychological resilience, suicide risk, suicide-related behaviors, and suicide deaths in the U.S. Army.
Letters of intent are due March 3, 2009; applications are due April 3, 2009.

Initiatives

The Penn State Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and the Office of International Programs are initiating a new program to enhance Penn State's involvement in the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN). Under this program, the two offices will provide seed grant support for workshops to develop WUN research programs. If you are interested in developing a workshop, please contact Terry Noll (tmg3@psu.edu) for further information.

January 16, 2009: Friday Teas with FRDC presents, "Pathways to Prevention: Influencing the Parenting Attitudes and Behaviors of Non-Resident African American Fathers as Protection against Adolescent Risk Behaviors," by Dr. Cleopatra Caldwell, University of Michigan. 12:15 - 1:15 p.m., The Living Center, 110 Henderson. 2009 Diabetes and Obesity Research Retreat, March 23, 2009, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Penn Stater Conference Center, University Park, Pennsylvania. Abstracts: Deadline is February 20, 2009. (Note: Presenters from the informal 2008 Fall Thematic Wine and Cheese Forum may resubmit abstracts for this more formal venue.)
Registration: Deadline is February 28, 2009.
