Initiatives
As part of an initiative to build a cross-disciplinary community of scholars doing qualitative social science research, the Penn State Qualitative Research Interest Group (QUIG) is organizing a one-day training opportunity in NVivo8--the leading qualitative data analysis software program--for faculty and professional research staff. Workshop registration is BY INVITATION ONLY and space is limited. If you are interested in receiving more information about this workshop and application procedures for participation, please contact Michelle Miller-Day at mam32@psu.edu by 1/28/09 for more information. The workshop will occur on February 20th. The workshop is made possible by partial funding through the Social Science Research Institute.
Events
February 10 (noon) and February 16 (3:00 p.m.), 2009: Jane Childs will speak at the A&A Foundations Brown Bag. Her talk will be about approaching and working with foundations to build relationships; the discussion will go beyond the scope of A&A relevant foundations. Event will be held in 121 Borland Lab.
February 19, 2009, 4:00-5:00 p.m., 301D Life Sciences: Inside the Scientists Studio Monthly Seminar Series presents interactive interviews with Dr. Eileen Trauth & Dr. A. Techatassanasoontorn, College of Information Sciences and Technology. View the seminar series schedule.
February 19 and 20, 2009, Nittany Lion Inn: The 2009 IST Graduate Symposium will explore and showcase interdisciplinary research being conducted in the information sciences. Please view the program and registration form.
February 24, 2009, 1:00-2:30 p.m., 112 Kern: The Distinguished Lecture Series on Network Science and Research presents James Moody, Duke University, speaking on "Diffusion Implications of Network Dynamics." Other Announcements
The Collegium de Lyon, IEA (Institute for Advanced Studies), France, has been developed to create an international scientific community of excellence and to encourage exchange between disciplines, cultures and languages. Its research activities are mainly centered on the human and social sciences.
