Mike is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science with concentrations in international relations and quantitative methodology. His dissertation examines the relationship between interstate conflict and the structure of domestic political institutions. As part of this project he is developing a new measure of militarism using latent variable modeling techniques. His broader research program encompasses a variety of topics, including the development of novel data collection techniques, the effect of military intervention on civil conflict settlement, and the relationship between alliance formation and extended deterrence.
