Frontiers in Motor Control
Penn State has been a leader in interdisciplinary research on human movement for decades, performing research across many disciplines including kinesiology, psychology, engineering, orthopedics, and neurology. The newly formed Center for Motor Control merges these disciplines with the intention of facilitating interdisciplinary and translational research focusing on the underlying mechanisms of motor coordination in both healthy and diseased states.
"Frontiers in Motor Control" is a conference celebrating the Center's inauguration. This conference provides an opportunity to celebrate the new center and to discuss research in motor control and the possibility of future collaborations with the Center's members and associated faculty.
"Frontiers in Motor Control" will be held October 30, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Bennett Pierce Living Center, 110 Henderson Building on Penn State's University Park campus.
The conference will feature presentations from distinguished scientists who study motor coordination against a variety of backdrops (neural, biomechanical, cognitive, and clinical sciences).
Scheduled presenters are:
Dr. W. Zev Rymer, John G. Searle Chair in Rehabilitation Research at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
Dr. Michael Turvey, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Connecticut
Dr. Marjorie Woollacott, Professor of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon
Dr. James Ashton-Miller, Albert Schultz Collegiate Research Professor and Distinguished Research Scientist in the Departments of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan
Please plan to bring your graduate students! Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
There is no cost to attend but RSVPs are requested by September 25.
To RSVP, or to get more information on the conference, contact Donna Panasiti at dlp18@psu.edu or (814) 865-1528.
