Funding Opportunities

Level 1 Funding

Overview

Level I funding provides support for the creation of interdisciplinary networking groups.

In order for interdisciplinary research to develop, researchers from various disciplines need to meet to discuss mutual interests, develop research questions, identify team leaders, and divide responsibilities. This mechanism is designed to help faculty form research teams.

Level I funding is often used to pay for meetings (often with food provided), graduate assistant time, consultant time and travel, and travel related to the formation and on-going activity of the networking group.

Criteria for Review

  • Priority is placed on new ideas that involve cross-department and/or cross-college collaboration.

  • We support networks of investigators who range in seniority and experience.

  • We will not fund expenditures generally made by departments and colleges (e.g., travel to professional conferences, seed money for individual projects) or to support service delivery or outreach programs.

Structure and Submission of Proposals

Proposals must be submitted via email to Terry Noll (tmg3@psu.edu). Please note support letters from all investigators now required with submissions. To complete your proposal submission, you must download, complete, and email the form below:

Proposal Submission Form (Word document)

On those occasions where proposed research will involve either primary data collection or the use of secondary data, investigators will be expected to prepare and submit the appropriate requests for IRB approval of research involving human or animal participants (whichever is appropriate to the project).
