The Penn State Rural Interest Initiative
Penn State and Rural-focused Research
Penn State has a long history of rural-focused research both within the Commonwealth and nationally. The University's rich tradition of rural research is theoretically informed, empirically detailed and methodologically rigorous across a spectrum of fields drawing on the sciences, social sciences, engineering, and humanities. The agricultural economics and rural sociology programs are leaders in their respective fields. Faculty in colleges other than agriculture, including the law faculty, the medical school and education, science, engineering, and earth and mineral sciences, have experts working in various aspects of rural research.
