Research Themes

A number of studies have identified common elements necessary to support adaptive aging in place. From this research, at least six promising areas have been identified for initial interdisciplinary research collaborations at Penn State. These areas build on existing disciplinary strengths at Penn State that could be focused on the challenges of adaptive aging in place. These include:

• Optimizing health and wellness;
• Supporting elder caregivers;
• Increasing elder social engagement;
• Developing financing strategies for health/long-term care;
• Utilizing technology to promote adaptive aging; and
• Designing livable neighborhoods for adaptive aging.
