David Greer has been working as a SRC field interviewer since 2005. Dave has assisted in data collection in homes, schools and work places for the Promoting School, Community & University Partnerships to Enhance Resilience project (PROSPER) and the Rural Youth Education project (RYE). He holds a BS from Penn State, a Masters of Education from Mansfield University and a Masters in Library Science from Clarion State University. Currently residing in Lewisburg, PA, Dave is now a semi-retired teacher who has over 35 years of educational service. Dave and his wonderful wife, Judy, have three children and two grandchildren. Dave enjoys traveling, golfing and attending Pittsburgh Pirate and Penguins games.
We enjoy working with Dave for his witty sense of humor and relentless 'can do' attitude. He says that he enjoys his work for the SRC because there is "never a dull moment, as every day brings a positive unexpected result ranging from meeting new people to experiencing new situations." Dave also enjoys being in the field with his colleagues and the University Park staff, whom he finds to be professional as well as interesting and fun. As with many of our interviewers, he sometimes feels challenged by the necessity of early morning travel in order to get to one of the high schools where we annually collect data. But Dave perseveres and always manages, with a hot cup of fresh coffee in hand, to always arrive early and ready to work. Dave finds that his work at the SRC is a way to continue to stay involved and contribute to meaningful research.
Deborah Crockett has been a field interviewer for the SRC since 2005. She has assisted in the data collection efforts in schools, homes and work places for the Promoting School, Community & University Partnerships to Enhance Resilience project (PROSPER) and for the Early Growth and Development project (EGDS). Deb holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration and recently completed a BS in Organizational Leadership. In her free time, Deb volunteers as a Director of Municipal Emergency Management, a Fire Police officer and an elected township auditor. Much of the data that the Field Division of the SRC collects is in communities in the Northeastern part of Pennsylvania that Deb calls home: a 1930's farmhouse near the beautiful Promised Land State Park.
Deb feels that by working at the SRC, she has been better able to understand and enjoy many of her Sociology classes at Penn State. She finds that her former customer service experience has helped her to provide our respondents with a courteous, efficient and enjoyable interview experience. She continues to enjoy working for the SRC because she "enjoys meeting new and interesting people" and feels supported by the staff at University Park. Deb appreciates the flexible schedule that the SRC work offers her, which she combines seamlessly with her busy school and volunteer activities. Even though she is occasionally frustrated by respondent cancellations, Deb enjoys working at the SRC so much that she wishes that the work was more plentiful year round. Overall, Deb feels that working as a field interviewer is a "great part time job; it feels like we're doing something significant."
